Reebok Floatride FR20z Treadmill Review

Reebok Floatride FR20z Review

Mark’s Summary: I got a pang of nostalgia writing this Reebok FR20z Floatride treadmill review. My first home treadmill was from Reebok – it lasted years. While I replaced this with a high-end NordicTrack model, that Reebok machine was brilliant.

The FR20z looks stunning – this is a change-up from the usual Reebok designs, with the red or yellow support pillars and a fresh and intuitive console. The real change is in the technology under the running belt. Floatride is designed to minimise impacts while you run, keeping you safe from jars or injuries.

Add running app compatibility, one-touch incline, and a healthy 18km / hour top speed – and you have new treadmill that looks destined to join the i-Run on the best-sellers lists.

Detailed Review of the Reebok Floatride FR20z Home Treadmill

Let’s start with the size and setup, then get into the details of the technical spec and app-compatibility.

The FR20z Floatride is a mid-sized model, with a 46cm by 140cm running belt. That is markedly bigger than most budget-level treadmills, though 5cm narrower than the base commercial treadmill models.

Here are the dimensions:

  • Length: 177cm
  • Width: 69cm
  • Height: 145cm

Reebok recommend a maximum user weight of 120kg, and the treadmill weighs in at 72kgs.

You get a 2-year warranty for home use with your treadmill (in my experience with Reebok, their after-sales service is excellent). Expert assembly is available alongside your purchase, or you can assemble the pieces yourself.

Speed, Incline and Running Belt Technology

The 18km / hour top speed is plenty enough for most home users. This is powered by a 2.25 HP eco-kinetic electric motor. Like all Reebok home treadmills, the Floatride FR20z is powered from the mains.

There are 15 incline levels, which you adjust by tapping buttons on the console. This will add some serious burn at the top levels – and keep your runs varied.

Floatride technology in the running belt takes inspiration from the running shoe range that Reebok built their name with. This involves strategically placed cushioning zones, which reduce impacts and create an ultra-smooth ride.

Floatride FR20z console

Reebok FR20z Floatride Treadmill Review: Console and App Compatibility

I love the new console design of the FR20z. Instead of a square, this is a longer, thinner area which shows you all the key stats – and has easy to reach buttons for fast changes to your workout.

Note that it pivots. You can adjust it to avoid glare from lights, and to suit your height.

This is programmable. The regular readouts are Speed, time, distance covered, calories burned, incline level, pulse rate and an estimate of body fat (via hand grips).

Choose from 24 pre-set workouts, manual mode or set up to three custom workouts which can be tailored to your goals (fat burning, distance and so on).

Reebok made their Floatride FR20z treadmill app compatible. You can connect with both Zwift or Kinomap – allowing you to share runs, track your improvement and enjoy the maps and other features of these applications.

Extras: Important Small Touches on the Reebok FR20z

Reebok has been making treadmills for a long time and know that the small touches can make a major difference in the quality of your runs.

You get front transport wheels to move the FR20z around – great for people without a dedicated workout room. There are also built-in surround sound speakers, along with Bluetooth connectivity to stream music or a podcast. There is a media dock (app compatibility) and Reebok even thought to add extra storage behind the console.

Feedback: What do Long-Term Owners of Reebok Treadmills Have to Say?

Reebok are a quality brand, and their ratings over different retail outlets reflect this.

They don’t get ‘all five stars’ by any means, though when you compare the feedback with the prices this is hugely positive compared to rival brands. Most negatives for Reebok are from people frustrated with the assembly. While understandable, my view is that this is no more of a challenge than for any brand. Expert assembly is a little expensive… if you have a local handyperson, that could be a cheaper route.

With that 2-year warranty, plus Reebok after-sales service, you’ll be able to buy with complete peace of mind.

Wrapping Up: Is the Reebok Floatride FR20z Treadmill Right for You?

I see this model as the perfect substitute for higher-end treadmills that may be a little too pricy.

We’d all love something from Sole Fitness or NordicTrack – but don’t have the thousands of pounds needed for them.

With the Floatride FR20z, you get a lot of technology at a fair price point.

This includes the new running belt cushioning, app compatibility, Bluetooth, and one-touch incline controls.

The icing on the cake for me is the fresh new design.
