NordicTrack GX 4.6 Pro Exercise Bike Review

The GX 4.6 Pro Upright from NordicTrack

Summary: I rate the NordicTrack GX 4.6 Pro exercise bike as the best quality upright home bike under £1000. This unit combines classic looks with a rear flywheel encased (no visible front wheel like you get with studio bikes). You get a low centre of gravity, sleek good looks, and the latest technology all in one place. The GX4.6 bike comes with a built-in HD screen. This works with the iFit live / group training app, which you get free for 1 month with your purchase.

Excellent feedback from owners of exercise bikes in the GX range.

Mark’s Update: New tech and a new model, the numbers changed and the tech got better with the GX 4.5 Pro bikes!

Detailed Review of the NordicTrack GX 4.6 Pro Exercise Bike

While the GX 4.6 is a sturdy unit, it is not as bulky as the commercial exercise bikes from NordicTrack – making it perfect for home users. It is 94cm long, 63cm wide and 156cm high to the top of the console. This bike weighs 47kgs, with the max user weight listed at 130kgs (a little over 20 stone).

You will be hard pushed to find a more stylish upright. NordicTrack design is elegant without being garish or too ‘sci-fi’. The base and console are black, contrasting with grey supports and details. I like the curved main support, which bring the upwards pointing handlebars and console closer to you.

The saddle and front unit are both adjustable, so you can find a comfortable cycling position. A small yet important touch involves the pedals. They are extra-wide compared to many bikes, with straps to ensure you won’t slip when peddling.

You get a generous warranty. Which include 2 years all parts and labour, with 5 years for the frame. Make sure you don’t forget to register for this within 28 days of your purchase.

Digital, Inertia-Enhanced Resistance

NordicTrack chose an inertia-enhanced flywheel for the GX 4.6 Pro. This keeps the resistance smooth, using an 11kg flywheel and digital resistance. If you are used to budget exercise bikes, the stopping and turning a knob is definitely not needed with this unit. You can adjust the resistance digitally, via the ‘OneTouch’ controls on the console. This can also be adjusted remotely as part of the iFit app functions.

iFit Technology in the NordicTrack GX4.6 Pro Exercise Bike

You get a free ‘Family’ (multi-user) iFit package with this bike. This can be used via the integrated 7-inch HD screen, or you can use a bigger tablet / iPad and set it on top of the console.

iFit is hugely popular. There are live training sessions, including some with pro athletes / the best personal trainers around. You can also choose from a library of training sessions, moving up as your fitness improves.

Trainers will change your resistance remotely during classes, though you are free to adjust this. Add in scenic rides, Google maps (to choose your own ride), social functions, social media aspects and detailed stats tracking, and you have an amazing all-round experience.

If you have not yet discovered iFit, you can find out more via the official NordicTrack.co.uk website.

Small But Impressive Touches in the GX 4.6 Pro Exercise Bikes

Other technology includes EKS handgrips. These are built-in pulse meters in the handlebars. You can use your heartrate as part of your training, or just check it out from curiosity. This bike is compatible with chest-strap monitors – though you won’t get one with it.

You can listen to your favourite tunes or podcasts while you cycle on the GSX 4.6 Pro. There are built in 2-inch speakers. There is also a built-in fan.

Feedback: What Owners of the NordicTrack GX 4.6 Pro Exercise Bike Said?

Very little feedback for this newer model at any of the usual big retailers. Overall, NordicTrack bikes get amazing feedback – with the iFit community giving 4.5 / 5 stars regularly. I have made a note of this and will be back to update this page very shortly. One reviewer grumbled that iFit was not suitable for beginners. I have a completely different opinion. I think iFit is perfect for beginners – it is unfortunate that one person at least gave up before it was possible to show them where to start!

With a generous warranty, easy assembly, and that infamous NordicTrack support, you can definitely buy any GX bike with peace of mind.

Wrapping Up: Is the NordicTrack GX 4.6 Pro Exercise Bike Right for You?

I don’t think you’ll find a better-quality upright bike at under a grand. The technology, build and sheer good looks work perfectly together. You get a solid bike with a comfortable saddle and stable base. It is adjustable – and has electronic resistance changes via the console.

Best of all, you can join group training classes which suit your current fitness level with iFit. This adds a new dimension to your rides – and will give you that extra motivation to keep peddling too.
