Mark’s Update: This one has been gone for long enough that I’l’ declare it finished!

A super-popular alternative comes from XS Sports. You can check it out via the button in the box below:

XS Sports Luna Pro 2-in1 Elliptical Cross Trainer Exercise Bike-Fitness Cardio Weightloss Workout Machine-With Seat + Pulse Heart Rate Sensors
XS Sports Pro Fitness Elliptical Cross Trainer with Pulse Sensors – 2 in 1 – Can Be Used As A Cross Trainer or Exercise Bike (more…)

Here are some more cross trainers which are in a similar spec / budget category (the links go to the individual pages here at Fitness Review). If you would prefer to see them listed at, then this page will give you the run-down. For anyone looking to step up one more level, I strongly recommend this model: Reebok ZR8 Elliptical

Summary: The New 2-in-1 cross trainer from ATR Fitness would be a great value budget model as either an exercise bike or an elliptical cross-trainer – in fact it does both. Not only a good choice for those on a budget, this would make sense as a try-it-and-see option if you are split between a bike and a cross-trainer. The feedback is certainly good for the price range, and at the time of writing there is a large discount available at – you can see both of these things over on the product page – check it now!

Detailed Review of the 2-in-1 Cross-Trainer / Exercise Bike from ATR Fitness

You’ll get a lot of equipment for your money with this model. In fact, with the current discount (this can change, so keep an eye on the product page for info) I’m not sure that there is a better exercise bike / cross-trainer combo out there. when you take the spec into account (LCD screen, pluse sensors, adjustable seat / bars and resistance levels), this becomes a serious bargain. ATR have managed to maintain good looks for this machine too – it is larger and more robust looking than many machines at this end of the price spectrum.

With both bike and elliptical functionality, you’ll be able to get a full body workout with shoulders, arms and chest involved as well as the legs / butt.

As well as the heart-rate pulse sensor (the sensors are in the handlebars), the computer measures distance, calories burned and speed. You will not get pre-set programs with this model.

Comments from Previous Buyers:

This machine does require home assembly. While most comments said this was relatively easy, it does take an hour or more, tools and instructions are included. You’ll get express delivery with this model. In general, feedback is that this is a great machine for the money. As long as the expectation level is set at the right level (you are not going to get gym style equipment for less than £100) then the users were very satisfied. Some users reported missing bolts when they received the bike / cross trainer, though customer service appears to resolve these issues.

I would like to personally thank ‘Yvette’ who took the time to ‘answer’ a question about the width and height by stating that she could not answer as she has already sold hers. It’s people like you Yvette, that make amazon great!

Back to the review. If you are not sure whether to go for a bike or an elliptical, this does solve the problem. You’ll get 90% of the best of both worlds, enough to get started with home fitness, and to see which machine you prefer. This could be a cheap experiment if you are unsure on which one to get, or whether home fitness is right for you!

Set the expectations at a reasonable level – and this hybrid cross-trainer / exercise bike is a serious bargain. Check out the product page now over at

  • Cheap, in fact VERY cheap
  • Combines bike and cross trainer functions
  • LCD display

  • Not as sturdy as the pro-level equipment

What are the alternatives?

That really depends on whether you are set on a hybrid, or would like to take the home biking or cross training side of things individually… of course it also depends on your budget.

For bikes I’ll give a shout out for a couple of very popular models, which have the right price and very good feedback.

First the JLL IC 200 Spinning Bike looks like something right out of a modern gym, with programs to match the style, and a keen price – this spinning bike puts many of the ‘old school’ upright exercise bikes to shame. You can read my review here.

Budget conscious home bikers can check the iconic F-Bike range from UltraSport. These are best-sellers, year after year!

If you would like to find out more about elliptical cross trainers, then I have a page dedicated to this topic right here. This will walk you through all of the different options on how to choose a cross-trainer, and what different options and specs to expect for your money.
