NordicTrack SpaceSaver SE7i Elliptical Cross Trainer Review

NordicTrack Se7i Elliptical Cross Trainer

Summary: Not only is the SpaceSaver SE7i Elliptical a rare cross trainer that folds away – it includes the latest technology from the respected NordicTrack. While iFit membership grabs the headlines (this is for group training, social and scenery), there is a lot more than that. You get a super-quiet action, accurate resistance, speakers, a fan, EKG grips and Bluetooth – all in one sleek looking unit.

With the SpaceSaver SE71 Cross Trainer, NordicTrack took their commercial elliptical technology, and added a fold option – making it perfect for home users.

Detailed Review of the SpaceSaver SE7i Elliptical Cross Trainer from NordicTrack

NordicTrack make stunning fitness equipment. The angles, curves and use of blacks, greys and silver comes together beautifully with the SE7i. This is big compared to the rattling ‘no brand’ options that proliferate these days.

Once assembled your cross trainer is 203cm long, 82cm wide and 180cm high. You can fold it length-wise – cutting the length to an impressive 58cms. The maximum user weight is 135kgs (more than 20 stone). Keep in mind that all equipment manufacturers are err on the side of caution with these recommendations.

All the latest NordicTrack fitness equipment benefits from long warranties. With the SpaceSaver SE7i Elliptical you get 2 full years covering parts and labour – plus 5 years for the frame. Remember to register within 28 days of your purchase to start your warranty.

Powerful Resistance with Zero Impact

This model uses ‘SMR’ or ‘Silent Magnetic Resistance’ to keep your ride smooth. If you are connected to iFit (you’ll need a tablet, see below), then the trainer can change the resistance depending on what workout / programme you are on. If not, then you can change between 22 levels using the OneTouch controls.

You get incline with NordicTrack ellipticals. This is rare – it uses changes to the resistance at different points in your stride to give you the feeling of going uphill. Perfect for varying your workouts. With an 8k ‘Inertia-enhanced’ flywheel (whatever that means!), the incline can go up to 8 degrees.

iFit SE7i Cross TraineriFit and Other Technology on the NordicTrack SE7i Space Saver Elliptical

To use the iFit training app, you need a tablet or smartphone with a decent sized screen. There is a tablet holder on the SE7i. This connects to your machine using Bluetooth. You can pick from a library of training sessions or live group training. The resistance and incline can be changed remotely, giving you a varied session.

There are scenic ‘rides’ to enjoy. You can even pick your own route, using Google Maps. iFit also tracks your goals with excellent graphs, and lets you connect with others for group / social interactions.

High-tech apps are not for everyone. You can use this elliptical without it, using a backlit 5-inch screen, which includes 24 pre-set workout apps.

NordicTrack pack their cross trainers with technology. In addition to the apps and incline, you get pulse grips on the poles, a music port plus ability to connect using Bluetooth, built in speakers, an ‘AutoBreeze’ fan and even unique SoftTouch grips. If you had not caught it, NordicTrack love to connect words together for their different technical features.

Feedback: What Do Current Owners Say About the SE7i Space-Saving Cross Trainers?

iFit users love this machine, almost gushing about what a difference the group training makes to their fitness levels. Back to regular retail outlets, and the reviews held up there too. This is in line with most of the recent NordicTrack elliptical range.

The quality and sturdiness got a lot of individual mentions. The cooling fan might seem like a minor element – though this was also popular. Some people were disappointed that iFit required their own tablet. That sounds like a miscommunication to me. There are models with the screen built in. The best example of that is the FreeStride FS9i – which is an amazing machine.

NordicTrack are well-known for their service, though I always recommend you check out the views of owners, whichever elliptical you buy.

Wrapping Up: Is the SpaceSaver SE7i Elliptical Trainer Right for You?

Folding ellipticals are rare. Even if you only need to free up the space occasionally (for example when you have guests needing the spare room!), then this is a plus point. Overall, the quality and features will appeal to anyone that already knows they enjoy cross trainers and wants a unit that will last them for years.

The free iFit for a month is the icing on the cake for me. This group training / social app will keep you motivated, and keep those workouts varied. There is plenty enough technology in the SE7i to make it a wonderful elliptical without the iFit app.
