Hyperice Vyper Foam Roller Review

Hyperice Vyper Vibrating Foam Roller

Summary: The Hyperice Vyper foam roller uses high-intensity vibrations to boost your recovery, flexibility and relieve muscle soreness. It has its own battery, which recharges each time. With around 2 hours of use, this is plenty enough to take to the gym. Vyper rollers have three intensity levels, giving you flexibility. Of course, you can always use it as a regular foam roller by switching it off.

Feedback shows that the Hyperice Vyper works well. While some people noted the significant price difference compared to regular rollers, there was little doubting the effectiveness and build quality.

Detailed Review of the Hyperice Vyper High-Intensity Vibrating Foam Roller

This is smaller than a regular roller. It is just under 30cms long, and 13.5cm tall. When unboxed and ready to use it weights a little over 13.6kgs. This is small enough to pack into your gym bag. It is made of sturdy neoprene (plastic). You get a charger, along with an adapter to fit your plug.

I like the slanted ridges of the design. Not so sure the logo needed to be so big (a minor complaint). Only one colour is available, black. Vyper rollers are easy to wipe clean.

Controls are simple, you get a button, for on-off. There are three blue lights above this, one for each intensity level. The motor is reasonable quiet. Keep in mind that when you press it against the floor, the vibrations will cause a rumble (depending on your floor type).

Benefits of the Hyperice Vyper Foam Roller

The makers have some numbers for how much better this is compared to non-vibrating foam rollers. They say 40% boosts to your range of motion, compared with 18%. While this is significant, you need to do your own research. How they defined and measured ‘range of motion’ is not clear.

You can use these rollers for both warm up and active recovery. Hyperice give it 2x the effectiveness here. This does fit with the feedback / comments. Let’s face it, anything that can help reduce muscle soreness and stiffness (even a little) has to be a positive!

Feedback / Comments for the Hyperice Vyper High Intensity Foam Roller

Great feedback overall for this product. Quality was highly rated, with very few needing to send their rollers back or complain over missing bits compared to most fitness products.

Whether the vibrating function is worth the money (compared to regular rollers) was a frequent thought. I agree with the thinking, this is better, though the price makes it more of a ‘luxury’ purchase than a needed one. If you need the extra relief regularly from stiffness / soreness, you might well put it into the ‘must-have’ pile. If money were not important, I’d pick this one over a regular (non-vibrating) model all day long.

As I always note, even the best fitness equipment companies have periods where their service lacks. Make sure you check the latest comments / feedback before you buy anything from a foam roller to a new NordicTrack treadmill.

Wrapping Up: Is the Hyperice Vyper Vibrating Foam Roller Right for You?

If you have already seen the benefits of a regular foam roller and want to go one (up to three!) better, then the Vyper is for you.

It noticeably aids recovery and warm up – and is small enough to be portable. The makers have a solid reputation, creating products including compression pads and massage guns. Their vibrating roller is not the cheapest – though you know you’ll be getting a top-quality product.
