Update: The world of sports watches moves fast, and since this page was published Garmin have moved forward with their range and no longer make the 220. The replacement is the Garmin Forerunner 235 – it has GPS, and (for me at least) looks even more stylish than the original. Check out the spec, and you’ll see that this compares well with far more expensive running watches! Find out more and see the pictures on this amazon.co.uk product page.
Summary: This is the upper end of the Garmin range, and includes a full colour display, GPS and integration with the Garmin Connect community. If you are serious about your running, this top end running smartwatch should be one for the shortlist. Check out the user feedback at amazon.co.uk now!

Detailed Review of the Garmin Forerunner 220 Smartwatch
Garmin designed the ultimate watch that provides everything you need to know at a glance during your workout or jogging session. The comfortable strap design allows unrestricted circulation around your wrist and the well lit colour display is easy to read. The watch tracks distance, time and pace and allows sharing of your information with the Garmin Connect mobile app. It uses GPS but can still track distance inside or anywhere GPS is not available.
The Garmin Forerunner watch monitors your body stats too and provides this information for you to save and upload to a computer later to review your workout progress. With live tracking available, your friends, family or personal coach can see your shared results as you revel in your acheived goals.
One of the best features of the watch is that you can plan your training and send the updates or event plans directly to the watch to motivate and challenge yourself. It’s like having your own personal coach running with you for support.
- Full Colour Display
- GPS + heart rate monitor standard
- Top end runners watch
- Different price range compared to the basic trackers
Sometimes there are occasional delays in picking up GPS signals from satellites but this is not a big inconvenience and usually after a couple of minutes its signal is great.
