Ultrasport F-Bike – The Complete Guide to the Best Selling Folding Exercise Bikes

F-Bikes from UltraSport

Quick Summary: If there was ever a standard by which other exercise bikes could be judged, it would be the UltraSport F-Bike. This is a solid, budget bike which is the best-seller in its category year after year. While other brands come and go, the f-bike gets decent feedback from buyers again and again.

There are now several F-Bikes in the range. The basic model has seen seat back rests, advanced electronics, magnetic resistance and even a sturdier frame for heavier people added. You’ll also find more innovative variations.

This page takes you through the different options, starting with a summary table – then providing more detail on the exercise bikes which catch your eye. In case you are wondering what the ‘f’ stands for – this is ‘folding’… all the home exercise bikes in this range fold away for easy storage.

Best of all, these bikes often come with discounts at amazon.co.uk. You can check the latest prices and f-bike offers on this page.

F-Bike with Backrest

F-Bike 200B - Add a Backrest

This is the base model with a backrest behind the saddle. This allows you to sit back, though does not take away from the effort required to peddle. I'm not surprised that this add-on is extremely popular.

Review of the Original F-Bike: The Most Popular Home Exercise Bike Ever Made!

UltraSport f Bike Reviews Base ModelWhen you first receive your F Bike, the curves are the first thing that jumps out. There are two parts to the frame. One straight section which ends with the saddle at one end and the pedals at the other, and one gently curved section. At one end of the ‘S’ curve are the handlebars, and at the other a stand which gives the f-bike it’s solid base.

This design also lets the exercise bike fold neatly away for storage. If you ever had a non-folding bike and suffered from ‘extra clothes rack’ syndrome – you’ll know this is a worthwhile feature.

F-bikes are lighter than many models, weighing in at 17.7kgs shipped. The maximum user weight for the base model (the 150) is 100kgs. That is 15.7 stone in ‘old money’.

Dimensions are 90 x 55 x 145cms when unfolded.

8 Resistance levels and an Adjustable Saddle

You will see a black dial just underneath the handle bars. This controls the resistance of the pedals. There are 8 levels in total, ranging from super-easy to mid-strength. The f-bikes are designed for light exercise – and will not provide the stiff resistance of a studio bike. This is stepless resistance, meaning you will not feel a jolt as you move up or down while peddling.

Underneath the saddle is another dial. This is for adjusting the height. These bikes are suitable for most heights – though if you are extremely tall (6’4” + or small, then you might want to check with UltraSport before you buy). What the basic model lacks is a back-rest. For a few more pounds you can order a model with ‘B’ in the product name – which has a rest above the saddle so you can sit back while you peddle.

F-bike electronic consoleUltraSport F-Bike Electronics: Pulse Meters and On-Board ‘Computer’.

I have put the word computer in speech marks in this title for a good reason. While the console is functional – computer would be a little too flattering!

This shows your speed, time spent peddling, distance travelled, calories burned and your pulse rate. That pulse is detected via handlebar sensors. Heart-rate based training is possible with this function. Your results are for the current session only and are not saved for comparison with prior sessions.

For the price, the electronics give you everything you need – and this model even comes with batteries included!

Feedback from Previous Buyers: Are Current F-Bike Users Happy?

At the time of writing there are almost 1000 comments left by buyers of this model. That is huge compared to most fitness equipment. 92% gave this bike either 4 or 5 stars. Considering the budget price point, that is excellent.

I always look for themes running through the comments from multiple buyers. This filters out the extremely happy / unhappy types!

Here the common theme is surprise at the sturdiness, ease of assembly and quietness of the bike. Many of the comments acknowledge that this is not gym-level kit – though the vast majority are happy with the performance.

Of the negative feedback, the computer going wrong came up. Someone was also upset that their 10-year-old was too short for the bike.

I always recommend you check the recent feedback before making any fitness equipment purchase. You never know when things can change.

Wrap Up: Is the UltraSport F-Bike Right for You?

There is no doubt that the f-Bike is popular. My question is, who is the ideal user?

Judging by the comments from happy users, it is a wide selection of people. What they have in common is the desire for a budget machine that is easy to use for home fitness – and folds safely away between sessions.

Burning calories to lose weight, get some tone or just get some cardio into your life are all possible with the f-bike.

Best of all, you don’t need to be a fitness fanatic to get the benefits!

F-Bike Variations: Moving Up the Specs!

There are now 5 different variations of the original model, each adding a fresh take to the winning formula. Here are the options below:

  • 200B: Add a backrest for extra comfort
  • 250 / 300 / B: Add App Control plus a stylish new console
  • F-Bike Design: A little sturdier (up to 110kg max user weight) and fresh new designs
  • F-Bike Heavy: This one was built for people up to 130kgs in mind.
  • 400B: This one adds resistance band cables for arm workouts while you peddle
  • F-Rider: A Strange beast with pedals hanging from the handlebars (2-in-1 also available)
  • F-Bike Work: A hybrid bike which will cause you to do a double take.

F-Bike 200B: Add Magnetic Resistance + a Back Rest

Add a backrest to the f-bikeThis bike ships a little heavier than the base-model. At 19.kgs, most of the extra is taken up with a back-rest. This attaches to the saddle – giving some lower back support. It is a popular addition, making it easier to bike without having to focus on not slouching!

Once you get to the 200 range, you will also find ‘magnetic resistance’ listed in the spec. This gives a smoother and more predictable resistance (how hard it is to peddle).

Electronics, design and components match the original.

You won’t need to pay much for these upgrades – check the latest price for the F-Bike 200B now on this dedicated amazon.co.uk product page.

F-Bike 250 With App

250 / 300B matt blackI like the look of this one, which comes with a matt black finish. I’m not totally convinced that the upgrades are worth the extra price in this ‘in between’ area though.

You’ll get a redesigned electronic console. There is also an app for smartphones and tablets which you get access too. This bike is made with 80% metal and just 20% plastics. For a budget+ level bike that feels like a good ratio.

F-Bike Design 110

This model works for people up to 110kgs (17.3 stone), making it a little more robust than the base models. It also has a couple of small extras including 2-way ball bearings (pedal in both directions) and a handy cup holder too.

Check the gallery and price of the f-bike design here.

F-Bike Heavy

review of the ultrasport fbike heavyThis is for bigger users, up to 130kgs (that is 20.4 stone in old money). It follows the same specs as the base model, with a sturdier frame. I also noticed a ‘towel holder’ listed on the spec this time which does not appear on other models!

You’ll get the same 8 resistance levels, same adjustable saddle and the versatile electronic console for the ‘Heavy’. The price point is only a little higher, making this an option for those who simply want a sturdier bike as well as riders above the max recommended weight for the other models.

Check the spec, price and gallery for the f-Bike Heavy here.

Folding Bike F-Rider (UltraSport’s Upright Variation) + 2-in-1 Model

f-rider 2-in-1 modelOne drawback with the original F-bike is that you need to remain seated while using it. If you want to stand up and sprint, then you could try this innovative variation instead.

To me this one looks strange. Instead of the unit with pedals at the bottom, the pedals hang down from an attachment on the handlebars. This means you can stand and really sprint hard.

If you prefer, you can get a 2-in-1. This combines the new setup with the old base unit pedals, giving you the option to do both.

I’m personally not convinced! Looking at the price, it seems like this strange looking bike is not shifting as well as the popular basic / heavy models. Do check out the full gallery if you are curious!

F-Bike Work

Bike / Desk Combo Fbike WorkThis is a combination of an f-bike and a desk… Not a full desk, a plastic tray (with a lip to stop your laptop or books sliding off).

I like the idea, and I like the way that UltraSport moved the electronic console to the side to make room. This is not the sort of arrangement for a full day of work. Where it will come in handy is to give you more options while you are peddling… no, that tray is certainly not designed as somewhere to keep your cakes!
