NordicTrack EXP 14i Treadmill Review

NordicTrack EXP14i Treadmill

Summary: The EXP 14i Treadmill from NordicTrack has a design that almost forces you to stop and stare. But it is the technology under the surface that will make working out a pleasure – run after run. It starts with the stunning 14-inch HD touch screen display (which works with apps including NordicTrack’s own iFit). You get touch button incline, a high 19km / hour top speed and the latest patented cushioning technology for the running surface.

EXP 14i treadmills fold using the effortless technology that NordicTrack does best – and for a larger home treadmill the folded profile is small.

Detailed Review of the EXP 14i Treadmill from NordicTrack

Let’s start with the size and design elements, with the technology covered below.

This is a big home treadmill – especially when compared to the multitude of ‘no brand’ models you see online these days. Once assembled, it is 202cm long, 80cm wide and 150cm tall. When folded, more than half of the length disappears (99cm x 88cm x 164cm). It is 114kgs boxed.

NordicTrack recommend a maximum user weight of 135kgs (>21 stone) for the EXP 14i Treadmill.

For me the design is very much ‘new generation’ compared to other NordicTrack treadmill ranges. The arms holding the console curve towards the runner then jut back, with a bulge at the front of the running surface giving a solid, safe look and feel. There are classic touches, I love the way the console curved around in front of you – and the seamless integration of the built-in speaker.

Motor, Speed, and Incline Capability

NordicTrack fitted the EXP 14i treadmill with a 3.0CHP motor. This is plenty of power for a home treadmill (even the commercial ones don’t go too far over this). Smart-response drive keeps this model quiet. The running belt us 140cm long and 51cm wide. It uses patented ‘Runners Flex’ cushioning – protecting your joints as you run.

19km / hour is plenty of speed for even the fittest runners – if you feel you need 22km / hour – consider the new 2450 Commercial from NordicTrack instead. You get one-touch controls for quick responses – no lag.

12% incline is also available via one-touch controls. This will add some burn to your runs and is perfect for those uphill sections on iFit or Google Maps.

Console and Technology for the NordicTrack EXP 14i Treadmill

You can’t miss the 14” HD touchscreen. This takes a stunning design and gives it a centrepiece. This also enables iFit (see below).

The screen is far from the only technology in the EXP 14i. You get Bluetooth capabilities (for tracking devices and apps). There are digital speakers built in, and a workout fan to keep you cool. The other tech is not immediately visible. Cushioning, one-touch controls, and the innovation behind the quiet motor are things you’ll immediately miss should you go back to budget treadmills.

EXP 14i Treadmills Work with iFit

You get a 30-day trial of iFit with your EXP 14i. You need to register for it and can decide whether to continue via a subscription or cancel at the end of you free trial.

The biggest benefit if iFit is to let your trainer control the speed and incline of your EXP 14i remotely.

This gives you a group training experience – with one of a long list of world-class personal trainers. In addition to iFit’s live training, there is a vast library which covers every scenic run and every fitness level. iFit will also track your progress and has social / group functions too.

In my experience, once you see how much easier getting fit is with iFit – you’ll want to continue using it.

Feedback: What Did Buyers of the EXP 14i Treadmill Have to Say?

iFit users at www.nordictrack.co.uk were almost too enthusiastic about the EXP 14i.

I looked around the different fitness retailers for some more nuanced reviews. Overall, excellent feedback for this model. Words which came up frequently were ‘solid’ and ‘quiet’. The folding mechanism did come in for praise from a few buyers.

Of the negatives, the main problem was with delivery (people needing to take the heavy box upstairs are never happy), and with assembly (that is every treadmill ever).

NordicTrack give you a 10-year warranty for the motor, 2 years for parts and labour and lifetime guarantee for the frame. Note that you must register your purchase within 28 days to initiate this guarantee.

Wrapping Up: Is the EXP 14i Treadmill Any Good?

This is a popular model, and for a lot of good reasons.

It is part of the new generation of treadmills from NordicTrack – in terms of the design and the technology.

The HD touch-screen monitor gives the EXP 14i that wow-factor. With a quiet SMR motor, Runners Flex cushioning and one touch incline – this model has everything a home user needs to enjoy getting fitter.

When you add the iFit capability, the EXP 14i turns into a must-have.
