Detailed Review of the NordicTrack GX3.9 Home Exercise Bike

While the design is instantly recognisable as a NordicTrack machine – the looks are unique. You get strong angles which contrast with the curves of the handlebars. The black and grey colour scheme gives this bike a serious feel, with the elegance coming from the silver rim of the flywheel and sharp ‘A’ frame design.

The GX 3.9 weighs 45kgs (50kgs boxed). It is 118cm long, 53cm wide and 107cm tall to the top of the tear-shaped console. NordicTrack list the max user weight at 115kgs – that is a little over 18 stone.

Both the seat and handlebars are adjustable. I like the mix of height and position for the seat. You can move this back to accommodate bigger and smaller users. The handlebars work for sitting, or for leaning forward to sprint. This means you can use the GX 3.9 like a gym studio bike – alternating climbs (sprints) and sit-down rides. Pedals have straps to keep your feet in place.

Smooth Magnetic Resistance

Resistance is adjusted via a knob positioned just below the handlebars. This feeds from a hefty 18kg flywheel. It uses felt to keep the resistance smooth. NordicTrack call this a ‘Natural Wool Resistance System’. There is plenty enough resistance for all fitness levels, from a ‘freewheeling’ pedal to tough hill-climb like drag.

GX3.9 Exercise Bike: LCD Console

This model does not come with a HD screen and iFit. If you want to access the latest in interactive fitness training, then the S15i or the stunning S22i are fantastic options.

What you do get is a simple yet effective LCD monitor which will track your numbers. You get speed, distance travelled, and calories burned. This is a single window console, which scrolls through the numbers as you peddle. Note that you will need to get the AAA batteries separately.

Feedback: What Owners of the NordicTrack GX3.9 Said?

The value for money comes across strongly from buyers of the GX 3.9. Sure, you don’t get the flashy patented tech that the more expensive / commercial NordicTrack exercise bikes feature – though for the price the vast majority of people felt they made an excellent purchase.

One or two people noted that the saddle is more like a road bike than an exercise bike. If you prefer, then a padded saddle cover will only cost a few pounds for some extra comfort.

The sturdy build also came in for praise – as did the range of resistance.

You get a long warranty with this bike when bought from the official NordicTrack store. This covers the frame for a full 5 years, and all parts / labour for 2 years. As with all NordicTrack fitness equipment, you need to register your warranty within 28 days of purchase.

Is the NordicTrack GX3.9 Home Exercise Bike Right for You?

This is the perfect studio bike for anyone that wants NordicTrack quality without the 4-figure+ price level that the flashier machines go for. The design is classic NordicTrack, from the colour scheme through to the mix of angles and curves. With steel construction and an 18kg flywheel, this is a robust enough bike for taller and smaller users alike.

While this unit does not come with iFit, is works brilliantly with the LCD console. You can sprint or sit back and peddle while you track your sessions.

Considering the price, the new 4.5 GX is an impressive exercise bike – check out the full gallery and latest price for yourself now, over on this page on the official nordictrack.co.uk website!
