Summary: There is a secret to getting the best possible value from a NordicTrack treadmill like the S25i. This covers the overall price and the console. If you get one of the commercial models with a built in HD display – you can pay 2x (or more!) the price.
With NordicTrack’s S25i, you will need your own tablet. What you do get is an amazing home treadmill, at a price which is a bargain compared to the spec. With incline, smart-response motor, and FlexSelect cushioning – this is a serious machine. If you don’t go for the new electronics / group sessions yourself, then it works just fine with its LCD console.

Lets start with the basics like size and engine capabilities. The design of the S-series NordicTrack treadmills is a little more angular than the Commercial or T-Series ones. Slightly skinnier bars are just as strong – and look somehow neater (to my eyes at least).
This model uses a 2.75 CHP (Continual Horse Power) engine. It uses the ‘SMART-Response’ technology used across the NordicTrack treadmills range. The tech keeps the engine cool with self-cooling options and reduces vibrations and so noise compared to other brands. The top speed is a big 22km / hour.
You get digital incline of up to 12% with the S25i. The key word here is ‘Digital’. This means the upward slope can be adjusted by hitting a button on the console. You don’t need to stop, change and restart. 12% is plenty for most runners, only truly commercial treadmills need to go any higher.
The belt is 51cms wide and 140cms long. With the overall length 162cms by 144 by 72. It folds up, using the hydraulic ‘EasyLift’ system.
As with all NordicTrack machines, you get a superb warranty. This is lifetime for the frame, 10 years for the motor and 2 years full parts and labour. You need to register for this warranty – don’t forget!
To benefit from the free trial iFit membership, you will need to use your own tablet or smartphone. This connects to the treadmill using Bluetooth. You get to take part in training sessions led by instructors, run over beautiful views or use Google Maps and pick your own spots. There are programmes and saved runs for every goal / fitness level in the library. The other use of iFit is a social network – you can connect with existing friends, or make new ones.
There is also a regular console included. This keeps the price down – and makes the s25i a great pick for people that don’t want / need all the flashy new apps.
Other tech worth noting includes advanced belt cushioning (FlexSelect), a built-in fan and EKG handgrips which measures your pulse rate.
When you overlook a couple of delivery snafus (that were not bought direct from NordicTrack) it is difficult to find anyone saying bad things about the S25i. Assembly / setup is always a pain point – and this was easy for everyone. The quietness of this machine got some individual mentions, as did the cushioning of the running belt.
Outside of NordicTrack, iFit use with the S25i did upset some people – this was an accusation of it being a hidden cost (as the subscription only lasts for 1 year, then you need to pay). I can sort of see the point being made here… though it is not as if anyone tries to hide that you get a free 1-year sub.
Overall, positive feedback on the build and smooth running of this model from many different sources. Makes sure you check the feedback from iFit users over at the NordicTrack store – there are always a wide variety of thoughts.
Two types of buyer will undoubtedly love this model. The first is those who want a quality home treadmill, but simply don’t want the HD screen, apps and group training. This treadmill works brilliantly using an old-school electronic console – which has everything you could need at the click of a button.
The second group are people who do enjoy the iFit / Group training apps and want to save money. If you already have an iPad or tablet, this works just fine. You can put it on the wide front console and save a ton of money compared to the models with integrated HD screens.
This is one of many excellent treadmills from NordicTrack. It has a 22km / hour top speed, 12% digital incline, pulse rate meters, fold-up design and FlexSelect cushioning on the belt. For the price, you are getting a bargain.
